The project concerns eligible countries such as Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Burundi, Cameroon, Angola, Gabon, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principes and Rwanda. It aims to establish a network between filmmakers and professionals from the rest of the world in order to promote reflections on writing and development of different projects which are important stages in the production process in Africa.
For eight days, participants whose projects are selected will initially benefit from remote supervision and support from experts, so that the conditions of participation apply in the sense that each candidate should only submit ‘a single project written in French or English.
The project leaders will then be able to work during their stay under the critical and constructive gaze of the professionals present in order to achieve mature works or which will have every chance of succeeding and being disseminated. It will also be an opportunity for them to meet the heads of partner residency workshops, producers representing television channels, heads of cinema support funds and many others with the aim of putting their projects in an international production and distribution network.
Sharing experiences during master classes will be one of the highlights of the residency because it will allow participants to talk about the particularity of their works in front of experienced directors and producers.
For feature-length fiction, documentary or series projects (between 15 and 25 pages), the file must include the elements mentioned: a cover letter indicating the need for candidates to participate in the Alaka film lab (one page maximum), a synopsis (1/2 page), a treatment (ten to thirty pages), the director/producer’s note of intent (two pages), the detailed budget of the project (in local currency and euros), the schedule of production, the director/producer’s curriculum vitae (trice), a photo, and copy of the valid passport, the presentation of the production company, an extract from the commercial register of the production company, a video or YouTube link of the director’s latest film/ producer and visual elements for animated film projects.
As for series projects (between fifteen and twenty pages): a cover letter indicating the need for candidates to participate in the Alaka film lab (one page maximum), the concept (series format, genre) two pages, a presentation of the main characters (one page per character with an overview of the trajectory in the story), a synopsis of the pilot (two to three pages), a summary of the episodes of the first season….The complete form can be read on https:/ /drive.google.com the file presented in a single PDF file bearing the title of the project is to be sent by email to [email protected] from 1is February 2025.
Note that at the end of the residency, the best projects will receive development grants, co-production and distribution agreements for pre-purchases and prizes to participate in other Alaka film lab partner residencies.
