National Gallery, London

The announcement of this new series of publications to follow on Instagram fell only a few days after other news: Eugénie d’York will appear in a documentary broadcast on ITV1 at the end of the month. My National Gallery will explore the history and future of the iconic institution through the stories of its most famous staff and visitors. The programme, which has been designed to celebrate 200 years since the London gallery opened in 1824, will include an interview with the princess, as well as chats with a host of other famous faces.

Jesus and Terry Gilliam

A photograph of the youngest of the York sisters was released to promote the documentary, where she is seen alongside a work dear to her. It is about The Virgin in the basket by Correggio, painted around 1524. The painting shows the Virgin Mary carrying Jesus on her knees, with Joseph in the background, at work at his carpenter’s trade. The National Gallery describes this painting as follows: “The very simple House of the Holy Family was built next to grandiose ruins: it is a symbol of the new faith emerging from the rubble of pagan antiquity. The painting consists of a gentle harmony of pink grays and blue grays, with the softness and smokiness that made Antonio da Correggio famous. »

Fans of the British crown will have to wait until December 30 to discover the documentary My National Gallerywhich will reveal why Eugenie of York, among the entire museum collection, chose to highlight this painting representing a united family. The princess will be joined by other celebrities, including Claudia Winkleman, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Jacqueline Wilson, who will each talk about their favorite works and their meaning.

“We are delighted to have produced such a beautiful film to celebrate 200 years of the National Gallery. It’s a real Christmas present,” said Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV’s controller of factual series, before comparing the film to last year’s, Vermeer — the Greatest Exhibitionwhich was widely acclaimed. With a starring role at one of the world’s most prestigious galleries, a appearance and now a social media series, it’s clear that Princess Eugenie appears to be reaching a new high when it comes to her career artistic.
