No less than five films from La Belle Province have exceeded the symbolic million dollar mark at the box office in 2024 and two others –, Shepherds et Miss Bottine – are expected to reach this milestone by the arrival of the new year. Our Sisters-in-Law (3,5 M$)
More than 50 years after their creation, Michel Tremblay’s sisters-in-law continue to attract crowds. Released at the beginning of the summer, René-Richard Cyr’s film adapted from the Quebec theater classic collected more than $3.5 million at box office in the province, becoming the biggest Quebec box office success since the comedy Liarin 2019.

Has Ricardo Trogi found the recipe for success? Thanks to 1995the 4the part of his popular series of autobiographical comedies, Ricardo Trogi last summer became the first Canadian director to cross the million-dollar box office mark seven times. 1995 raked in nearly $3 million at the box office.
The Christmas cyclone (2,4 M$)

The characters of The eye of the storm have successfully made the transition from the small to the big screen. The Christmas cyclone, a Christmas film inspired by the popular - TV series, was undoubtedly the Quebec success of the fall in cinemas across the province. A month and a half after its release, the family comedy starring Christine Beaulieu and Véronique Cloutier is still doing very well in theaters and will be available in a few days on the Ici Tou.tv platform.
The little one and the old man (1,5 M$)

Based on great performances from Gildor Roy and young actress Juliette Bharucha, this drama by Patrice Sauvé adapted from the novel of the same title by Marie-Renée Lavoie also managed to reach a large audience this fall. After raking in over $1.5 million at the box office during its theatrical run, The little one and the old man has just been released on DVD and video on demand.

This is a success that no one saw coming. Released in early February, this psychological thriller directed by French filmmaker Xavier Legrand and starring Marc-André Grondin and Yves Jacques was the first Quebec production to reach the million-dollar mark at the box office this year. We guess that the rave reviews and favorable word of mouth the film received helped it find its audience.
