Since the fake trailer for the biopic of Carlos – the singer, not the terrorist – broadcast during the 2017 César ceremony, we know of Jérôme Commandeur’s propensity to slip into other skins than his own, if possible in a suit and hairpiece, under a heavy layer of foundation.
For these end-of-year celebrations, Canal Plus gave it carte blanche and visibly an unlimited budget to embrace the tradition of parody shows, in line with the Unknownof Thank you Bernard or, more recently, Palmashow.
Each sketch has its own writing
When it comes to distribution, the comedian casts a wide net with Caesarized actors (from Karin Viard to Guillaume Gallienne), novices (Nathalie Saint-Cricq, Lena Mahfouf or Laurent Delahousse) and faithful accomplices like Valérie Lemercier, Audrey Lamy or François Damiens.
If Jérôme Commandeur applies the classic recipes of the genre by parodying shows, television news, documentaries or Christmas films, each sketch benefits from his straight writing, a mixture of madness and comic mastery.
It thus recreates the first meeting between the richest woman in the world, Madame Elnett, with François-Marie, a charming young photographer to whom she passes everything, or the extravagant escape of Carlos Ghosn in a musical instrument case. Commander pushes the mise en abîme by playing Kim Jong-un who came to inaugurate episode 3 of his magical world.
No crazier than reality which surpasses fiction. Which would resemble characters who existed and which would be purely fortuitous!
