A new centenary in Puymirol

All of Fernand Cassan’s friends were present (around thirty people). Singers from the Bastide (David and Pierre) punctuated the meal by going back in time through songs from Fernand’s era. There was something for everyone, people were delighted. At the end of the meal, Fernand received a basket of regional products offered by the Friends of the Bastide, as well as a box of local wines and a basket of fruit, gifts from the municipality.

Farmer all his life

Fernand Cassan was born on December 10, 1924 in Puymirol. A farmer all his life, he worked the land with a plow, at a time when there were no tractors! He was also a cow producer, grain grower and cultivated vegetables. His wife Ginette assisted him in his many tasks, notably force-feeding the ducks (liver and confit). Fernand was also an insurance collector. He was one of the first members and precursors of the “CUMA” (Cooperative for the use of agricultural equipment).

Centenary at home

Not so long ago, Fernand Cassan was still working his vegetable garden. He still lives at home and benefits from a meal delivery service, set up by the owners of the restaurant Le Bastid. A centenarian who does not live in a nursing home is not that common. Always attentive to others, the former farmer was also president of the Puymirol senior citizens club. What more could Fernand wish for? The best, certainly. As the president of the association, Annick Correia, says: “And there you have it, everything is said. » Happy birthday Fernand!
