It only takes a few notes – the crystalline celesta, the mocking clarinet, the mischievous violins – to recognize it. The melody on which the Sugar Plum Fairy begins a wriggling pas de deux in one of the best-known works of the repertoire: Nutcracker. Composed 130 years ago by Tchaikovsky, the ballet, which tells in two acts the adventures of a little girl carried away into the magical world of her toy, still sprinkles the end of the year with its sweet notes. In French-speaking Switzerland alone, there are around a dozen performances between November and February – at the Théâtre Beaulieu in Lausanne, you can even see three times, performed by three different companies, including once on the ice, the famous Fairy Dance or the Waltz of Flowers.
