It is a maelstrom of musical bliss, which will remind some of the light and lived-in atmospheres dear to a certain Jacques Offenbach. It’s a gallery of croquignolet characters immersed in working-class Paris. It is also an ideal entertainment to close the year 2024 at the Opéra Grand Avignon.
It is, finally, an ode to hope, depending on where one places the cursor of one’s own reading. Madame Angot’s daughter (1872) is here directed by Richard Brunel, the general and artistic director of the Opéra national de Lyon. Chloé Dufresne will conduct the Avignon-Provence National Orchestra. Initially, the libretto of this comic opera takes place at the end of the 18th century, under the Directory.
May 1968 as a historical spring
In this version, the dreams of freedom and the rejection of conventions certainly remain a dual axis. But Richard Brunel chose to continue the journey by adorning it with the colors of… spring 1968! Factory (of 4 L cars) on strike, busy cinema, CRS exit and even, a nod to Jacques Demy: everything here gives a vision relocated to another era, but which nevertheless remains faithful to the characters of Charles Lecoq .
