A book for the curious! Journalist and popularizer Jamy Gourmaud was in Saint-Étienne this Saturday, December 14, 2024, signing for his third almanac “365 New Days with Jamy”. The former co-presenter of It’s not rocket science met 220 people at the Librairie de Paris, which was fully booked for the occasion. In his book, there are more than a thousand articles with very different themes such as languages, travel, science, and even sports.
18 months of work
Jamy and his partner began writing the almanac in January 2023: “a book like this, there are different phases. First, find the topics. That’s the first time. It’s not an encyclopedia but it’s a little original hooks and then some side steps that you have to find. When I walk around, listen to the radio, it gives me ideas and I write them down. In total, there is a job of 18 months.”
Photos, personalized dedications. The character, very friendly (and very talkative) Jamy took the time to chat with his fans who are delighted, regardless of age:
- Naïade, 9 years old: “I watch videos of Jamy explaining reptiles or things like that. I came to see him to get his autograph and ask him questions. I asked if he would make videos again and he said yes.”
- Julien, 22 years old, student at the École des Mines de Saint-Étienne: “it goes back a very long time. It was on TV when I was a kid with “It’s not rocket science”. Then there were the teachers who put this in class and today there is the YouTube channel. It really stuck with me until now.“
- Elsa, Stéphanoise and mother of a little boy: “I grew up with Jamy, with “It’s not rocket science” and it was quite natural that I introduced my son to Jamy. And when we saw that he was passing through Saint-Etienne, we said to ourselves that it was extraordinary because we can see him in real life. I think it’s due to his personality because he’s both super nice and he explains things really, really simply. I think that’s why it really appeals to all generations.“
