Despite his 30 years of experience as a competition presenter, Jean-Pierre Foucault never had the flair to guess the winner of Miss France.
Asked about his ability to guess the winner before the official announcement, he confided: “I may have an idea of the two or three who are in the running at the end, but I’ve been wrong for 30 years. I never hit the nail on the head. When the usher gives me the envelope with the names of the finalists, I say in my head: ‘But you’re wrong again’.
The host also spoke about the predictions of artificial intelligence which has been right for two years and which gives a 68% chance of victory to Miss Guadeloupe this year. With his usual humor, he tempers: “Before believing in artificial intelligence, it’s better to worry about natural bullshit.”
The possible victory of Miss Provence: a personal symbol
Jean-Pierre Foucault, originally from the South, has always had a special affection for Miss Provence. “Miss Provence has never been elected in my time. I said one day that if Miss Provence won, I would stop.” So tonight, if Mégane Bertaux wins the title, will we see a change to the presentation next year? Jean-Pierre remains hesitant about the answer.
And the future in all this?
Almost 60 years into his career in radio and 50 years in television, Jean-Pierre Foucault is looking forward to the end of his career. “When is that day? Do you already have it in mind?” Eric Dussart asks him. With his usual wisdom, he responds: “As long as the insurance doctor tells me I can go, I’ll go. It’s not complicated.”
