Construction Exhibition, when women turn to the construction professions

This Wednesday, December 11, the women’s construction fair was held in Bandrélé. Organized by the OIDF training center, it aims to encourage women to choose a career in the construction trades.

Some dream of being actresses, journalists, lawyers, models… And then there are those who are not like everyone else and who have other ambitions. This Wednesday morning at the women’s construction fair in Bandrélé, they proudly parade to assert their choices. Malika Gamba is one of those who aspire to work in the construction industry. “These are great professions and I think that we women should get started. It’s not just men who can do this.” she claims. The young woman is particularly interested in professions related to painting and that is good, because these are professions that are hiring and offer numerous training courses.

The women who paved the way today feel invested with a mission: to convince others to join them. “My role today is to advocate equality between men and women in the world of construction. I am a tiler and it is a job that many men do not want to do. What’s more, it is not so physical that!”, confides Rama Kurusumu with pride.

For many of them, working in construction is synonymous with ambition and emancipation. On the side of business leaders, having women in their ranks can only be beneficial since they would provide better economic returns to companies. “The construction industry is a sector in full evolution but also in tension. We need women because diversity is important. When there is diversity there is more productivity”, says Soulaimana Dar, President of the OIDF group. In 2020 in , women represented 12% of jobs in construction professions.
