Lashley made his AEW debut on October 31. A stormy arrival which saw him quickly face Swerve Strickland and which visibly allowed him to enjoy greater creative freedom.
It was during an interview given to Denise Salcedo that the member of the Hurt Syndicate opened up about this major difference that he perceives between WWE and other wrestling federations:
“When I was in WWE, everything was very structured. Coming to AEW, you’re given a little more creative freedom so you can have more fun.
I already felt that way when I first came to WWE and left. By going to TNA, I had the opportunity to open up and find myself as a character. It happened because I had more flexibility.
When I came back to WWE, the very structured side came backand it was good, I like what they have to offer you. But I’m at a point in my career where I’m an athlete of a certain age, and having the opportunity to help the younger guys, to be creative, to do what I want, I think it’s Perfect for me right now.”
We will see if Lashley continues to like Tony Khan’s federation in the long term.
