. Anthony and Hélène bring the café on Place du Bourg to life

the essential
Anthony Carel and Hélène Tonglet took over this institution a week ago. With the desire to make it the real local bistro!

Place du Bourg, there is a café. Only one left on this marketplace. A real institution, located between the Blanquet butcher shop and Point Cadre: it is the Café du Bourg. Or the Bourg bistro. Call it whatever you want actually, as long as you feel good about it. This is, in a way, the message of Anthony Carel and Hélène Tonglet who, for a week, have been keeping this estaminet alive. No palace revolution on the agenda, even if it irritates Anthony’s dad, Thierry, a renowned architect, who has invested in a number of Ruthenian businesses, including the neighboring Café Ruthéna.

Make it a festive and sporting event…

“We want to make it the neighborhood bistro”slip Anthony and Hélène, all smiles. A friends’ bistro, a sort of village café, which, deep down, resembles them. “ We offer traditional cuisine at lunchtime, with a dish of the day, snacks with pancakes in the afternoon in particular, platters to share in the evening at the end of the week. We want to make coffee festive.”they explain in unison. “Let the phone of music circulate from hand to hand… We have also invested in subscriptions to offer sporting events.”

Simplicity while prioritizing quality in short. What built Anthony in his training in the profession. He has been working in the hotel and catering industry for ten years, from the kiosk in , via Val Thorens, Malta and other businesses in Ruthénois. To which must be mixed the kindness of the welcome with Hélène, who wants to see customers feel a little at home in their second home.

Open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the start of the week, and 6 a.m. on market days, and until late from Thursday, the bistro should sometimes open on Sundays. “We will start with one Sunday per month, then we will see…” In the meantime, these two Sundays coming up, the Village will be open in the same way as the town’s shops. And by pushing open the door, you will quickly judge the warmth of this place before, in fine weather, fully enjoying the charm of this Place du Bourg. With its shops, each one friendlier than the other. And we know the importance of coffee in a village, in a square…
