Season 4 of the Netflix series, The Witcherhas not even arrived on our screens and we are already suffering from the absence of its star actor, Henry Cavill. Indeed, in 2023, we learned that the Briton had decided to put his Witcher wig in the closet, not only out of disagreement over the script direction taken by the series but also to devote himself to other projects. In the summer of 2024, his fans could find him on a competing platform, Prime Video, in the film The Ministry of Dirty War. And it is once again with the Amazon platform that Henry Cavill is collaborating for his big current project: a series that is close to his heart, of which he will be an actor and producer.
Henry Cavill: after The Witcher, what is his big series coming to Prime Video?
In 2022, we learned that after FalloutAmazon had just acquired the global operating rights to another game franchise: Warhammer 40,000. The question at the time was whether this acquisition would translate into a film or series. At least initially since the ambition is to develop the franchise in several formats. And it's no surprise to find Henry Cavill attached to the project because, as a big fan of video games, he himself brought the adaptation project to Amazon, leading to the purchase of the rights.
As a reminder, Warhammer 40,000 is not originally a video game but a collectible figurine game, created by Games Workshop in the 1980s, which serve as support for a large strategic game. The story takes place in a very futuristic science fiction universe where the issue is the survival of humanity in the face of alien, technological and political threats. All of this has given rise to multiple video game adaptations since the 1990s. The latest is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2released in September 2024.
Henry Cavill: we know where his series adapted from Warhammer 40,000 for Prime Video
Starting this Tuesday, December 10, Prime Video begins operating the franchise with the release of the animated anthology series Secret Levelwhere each of the 15 episodes is devoted to a different video game universe. And one of the chapters is precisely centered on Warhammer 40,000. It is therefore not surprising that the actor chose this day to finally communicate on the progress of his project via his Instagram account: “To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer miniatures over 30 years ago….The Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!“, he begins, and continues: “My incredible team and I, along with the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working in design rooms to approach and process the vastness and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we sifted through its plethora of incredible characters and pored over old texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic starting point for our universe, which has been approved by senior executives at Amazon and Games Workshop. This starting point must, for the moment, remain secret. But stay tuned here – more information to come!“The concept of the series would therefore have been found and validated. All that remains is to develop!
