No, this is not a joke. The 15th edition of the World Pie Crust Championship was indeed held in Lyon. If for you this dish is just another way to start your meal, for others it represents years of work. In fact, around ten countries from several continents have arrived in France with the same objective; win the world crown, and succeed Frédéric Le Guen-Geffroy, reigning world champion.
For this, several criteria must be respected, between elegance, style and of course taste. And in this little game, we are presented with immense news: Japan achieves a double by placing Taiki Mano and Seigo Ishimoto on the two highest steps of the podium, ahead of Damien Raymon. The title of his masterpiece? The “pâté en croute with gold leaf, duck, foie gras, pork, sweetbreads and green pepper”. Without even tasting, it’s a guaranteed gold medal.
As in 2020, 2021 and 2022, Japan leaves with the most prestigious metal. So, can we say that Japan has screwed us over? This setback comes a month after the French signed a filthy hat-trick at the World Sushi Championships. Well, without the participation of the Japanese, of course.
