When we point out to Rachida Dati that her day of Friday November 29 began with a visit to Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral and ended on the barge of the electro club Le Mazette, the minister of culture smiled: “I was educated in a private establishment run by nuns of the Blessed Sacrament, but in the evening I went out! »

In this Parisian night establishment on 12e district, the councilor came to announce the creation of a new label for “places of artistic expression and celebration”. Its name: “Culture Club”. “It is not just a logo but support, recognition and protection for clubs which, by participating in artistic discovery, the emergence of new talents and freedom of expression, are cultural actors to full partshe defended. My fight is access to culture for all, without barriers. I take issue with the retrograde discourse that decides what is or is not culture. »

The managers of Culture Nuit (union of cultural and musical nightlife venues) and of the Collectif Culture Bar-Bars (national federation of café-concerts), whose establishments depend on the Ministry of the Interior, have not hidden their satisfaction with attend – twenty-six years after the creation, by Jack Lang, of the Techno Parade – a press conference organized at 10 p.m. by the Ministry of Culture in a club in the capital.

A symbolic celebration

“For many years, we have needed recognition. For too long we have forgotten where this music was born. We are presented only as places for partying and socializing, while we are also concert places”insisted Aurélien Antonini, co-founder of Bonjour/Bonsoir (company managing four Parisian venues) and president of Culture Nuit. “Nightlife isn’t just about places to have fun. We employ artists and technicians”recalled Olivia Schorestene, co-founder of Mazette.

This new label is above all a symbol. It does not entail any financial aid but ensures that the clubs “are part of the culture”. “We would be stupid to refuse this celebration. It can help change the perception of the general public, authorities and municipalities, who too often consider us as places of nuisance, and not as cultural places”believes Aurélien Antonini. “We play a role in the cultural ecosystem”adds Simon Boisson, vice-president of the Collectif Culture Bar-Bars and representative of nightclubs within the Hotel & Restaurant Group.
