Quinté+: Grand National du Trot 2024 – Matthieu Abrivard: “Iguski Sautonne runs the final because I see him a chance”

Seventeen years ago, already aware of his glory in uphill races, the young Matthieu Abrivard was on the bill for this Final of the Grand National du Trot, a meeting which already made him dream on the benches of the jockey school.

As he told us this Monday, when we went to meet him in the courtyard he occupies every winter in Grosbois, “Nimrod Borealis is the horse that allowed me to start driving. On the professional side, the GNT Final is my first big victory.”

Since then, with the support of those close to him, first and foremost Loic, his father, and Jean-Etiennehis brother, who watches over the family establishment on the side of Brionin Anjou, Matthieu joined the elite of French coaches and drivers.

Since the 2007 Final, Matthieu has won 9 other stages in the GNT, including two this year with Iguski Sautonnewho defends his training and the family coat. Having entered this 2024 Tour de in September, second at , and winner of two stages south of the , this beautiful trotter with an immaculate black coat is currently third in the general classification.

The best entered in the lead, Iguski, “the country boy who is bored when he is in the box” his trainer tells us, can still be the dolphin ofIgrec de Celland if successful next Sunday. “Before the start, I ran the Final seeing myself as having a chance, because my horse is good, and not in relation to the rankings”.

Indeed, if on the horse side the bets are made for the head of the ranking, mathematically the driver and trainer rankings are still uncertain. But you will have understood it with Iguski Sautonnemore than reason it is above all the heart that speaks, especially seventeen years later Nimrod Borealis
