The comic book author and director from Rennes, known in particular for The Arab of the futurewas given a medal par Nathalie Appérémayor of the City of Rennes.

“Rennes was the setting of my youth”

Born in Paris, growing up between Libya, Syria and Brittany, Riad Sattouf spent much of his adolescence in Rennes; schooled at Les Ormeaux college but also at Anne de Bretagne high school.

Today, the 46-year-old author remembers the city through its bars and even its bookstores… “Rennes was the decor of my youth »says Riad Sattouf. “It also nourished my imagination. »

“A medal isn’t much”

So, Rennes, “city of authors and publishers”, as Nathalie Appéré pointed out, wanted to award a medal to this local artist.

“A medal,” adds the councilor, “it’s not much. It’s not the Angoulême prize nor the Fauve d’or (…) but we wanted to say thank you (…) In Rennes, you make us proud. »
