Patrick J. Adams Reveals Depression and Alcoholism Led to His Departure from ‘Suits’ Series

Patrick J. Adams revealed that he was going through a period of depression and excessive drinking when he left the famous series “Suits.”

As NBC prepares to launch the spin-off of the hit series “Suits” on February 23, 2025, Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross in the series, spoke about the reasons for his departure in the podcast “Dinner’s on Me”. “I wasn’t taking care of my mental health and I was drinking too much at the end of season 7. I was living a messy, pretty miserable life, [et] I would say, quite depressed. I didn’t have the tools to deal with this depression other than by spending money or drinking. I didn’t know how to talk about it,” explained the actor.

In 2018, he announced his departure from the series to focus on his personal life and his marriage to “Pretty Little Liars” star Troian Bellisario in 2016. They welcomed their eldest daughter, Aurora, two years later. later, followed by another daughter, Elliot Rowena, in 2021. “I was still trying to live as a 25-year-old, which was affecting my marriage and making me absent as a father. I realized I had to stop drinking to be the father I wanted to be. “It’s the best decision I’ve ever made for myself,” he added.

Gabriel Macht reprises his role in the spin-off series

Patrick J. Adams also admitted to having sometimes doubted his choice: “The only reason I stayed was… money. I didn’t know what else to offer. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and think about the money that [Gabriel Macht] has won the last two years, but I have never regretted that decision for a single second. It was the right decision for my marriage… It was about time.”

“Suits,” which aired from 2011 to 2019, followed a team of high-profile corporate lawyers. The series saw a resurgence of interest last year, spawning the upcoming spinoff series “Suits: LA.” Gabriel Macht, who plays Harvey Specter, will notably reprise his role.
