Menendez brothers: Lyle's wife announces their separation after 21 years of marriage

Their marriage lasted more than 20 years. In a Facebook post published on November 21, Rebecca Sneed announced her split from Lyle Menendezsentenced to life in prison in 1996 for the murder of his parents, José and Mary Louise Menendez.

“No one deceived anyone, said the fifty-year-old on the page dedicated to Lyle Menendez of which she is the administrator. Lyle and I have been separated for some time, but we remain friends. We're part of the same family.”

Rebecca Sneed reste “committed to the release of Lyle and Erik”

Although she is now separated from Erik Menendez's brother, Sneed remains a huge support for the latter. In her post, she explains that she wants to continue fighting for her ex-husband to obtain parole. “I continue to manage this Facebook page, with his approval, and I remain committed to the release of Lyle and Erik, which for me has been obvious for all these years, she writes.
I will continue to inform you of the progress of the procedure because I think we have a common goal, that of freeing the boys! I will never stop fighting for them.”

Lyle Menendez and Rebecca Sneed united in
November 2003 at Mule Creek State Prisonin California. They had known each other for around ten years. Before marrying her, Menendez had a first marriage to a certain Anna Eriksson, which lasted only two years. In 2001, Eriksson filed for divorce after discovering that her husband was cheating on her with another woman.

A chance at parole for Erik and Lyle Menendez

This announcement comes as Lyle and his brother could finally become eligible for parole. Last October, following the success of the series Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menéndez on Netflix, prosecutor George Gascón announced that he was making a request to review the conviction of the two brothers. “It appears that the brothers were victims of assault and enormous dysfunction within the house,” the prosecutor then declared. As a reminder, both men claim to have been victims of incest at the hands of their father during their young years.

A hearing has been set for January 30 and 31 for a further review of the Menendez case. “We hope that at the end of this period or a little sooner, we will obtain the release of the brothers,” declared their lawyer Mark Geragos, leaving the court. Aged 18 and 21 at the time of their parents' murder, Erik and Lyle Menendez are now 54 and 56.
