It’s never too late to discover a new universe. And even less when there is barely 1 week left to watch the 2 hours of A Matter of Details. Released in 2021, it brings together two major actors from the cinematographic world: Denzel Washington and Jared Leto. The feature film was directed by John Lee Hancock, known in particular for The Founder (2016), The Blind Side (2009) et The Highwaymen (2019). The thriller is available until December 1 on Netflix.

An old-fashioned thriller

The Little Things, by its English name, is a thriller that immerses spectators in a tortuous criminal investigation. We therefore follow the story of a former deputy sheriff of Los Angeles who is haunted by his past. Victim of burnout, he returns to his former lands for a harmless mission. However, nothing goes as planned and he must team up with Detective Jim Baxter to track down an elusive serial killer. But their methods conflict and they each become the other’s doctor. Suspense then grips the spectators when the clues begin to lead to a man with strange behavior, Albert Sparma. The feature film is located between the known Seven (1995) et Zodiac (2007).

The casting is on point. We notably find Denzel Washington who plays the former sheriff of Los Angeles. The 69-year-old American actor has been in the news in recent months because he is in Ridley Scott’s latest film, Gladiator 2which has just been released in cinemas. Jim Baxter is played by Rami Malek, known worldwide for his leading role in MrRobot. But we also find Jared Leto who plays serial killer Albert Sparma. The American actor and director was notably the headliner of the film The Last of the high kings (1996) by David Keating. In the feature film, we also note the presence of Chris Bauer, Michael Hyatt, Terry Kinney, Natalie Morales and Isabel Arraiza.

No theatrical release in France

When it was released in 2021, the film was only screened in a few theaters in the United States. It is far from meeting the success hoped for by the production and is suffering enormously from the pandemic crisis linked to Covid-19. It is therefore directly published on HBO Max in the US and released on Netflix in France. With a budget of around $30 million, the feature film only grossed $30 million at the worldwide box office. Fortunately, streaming platforms have managed to give it a second life. The film climbed into the Top 10 most viewed new releases on Netflix upon its release.
