Rabat – The 17th edition of the “Handifilm inclusive cinema” Festival is being held from December 4 to 7 in Rabat, at the initiative of the Handifilm association under the theme “cinema as a lever for promoting inclusive ecotourism” , the organizers of this demonstration announced on Tuesday in Rabat.
Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this edition will highlight civil society initiatives aimed at relaunching solidarity, sustainable and inclusive tourism in the regions affected by the Al Haouz earthquake, said the organizers. during a press conference.
These initiatives are highlighted in two out-of-competition films produced by the “Handifilm” association and the Italian “Cinema Iclusione Participazione” association, focusing on the impact of the Al Haouz earthquake on ecological tourism in the affected regions, said the general director of the Handifilm Festival, Hassane Benkhlafa.
This edition will also see the participation of a group of young people from regions affected by the Al Haouz earthquake who benefited from training organized by the association on reporting techniques and other audiovisual arts, he added. .
This festival will be marked by the screening of around twenty films focusing on the issues of inclusion of people with disabilities in sustainable development as well as their image in cinema and the media.
The official competition of the Handifilm Festival will feature 12 films from Morocco, France, Turkey, Switzerland, Italy, Iran, Congo, Russia, China and India, while 6 films directed by young filmmakers from Morocco and Italy will compete at the special junior competition prizes.
The festival also includes a “Panorama” section which will see the screening of three films from Morocco and Italy.
The festival jury is made up of Fatima Attif (actress), Luc Boland (director), Fatima Yahdi (journalist), Ahmed Ait Brahim (film buff and expert in the field of disability and inclusive development) and Meryeme Chadli (head editor).
On the menu for this edition are several parallel activities, in particular, a workshop under the theme “from reading to cinematographic adaptation” aimed at introducing literature and cinema enthusiasts to the process of adapting a book into a film. .
The festival program also includes a round table which will bring together experts to discuss the theme of the festival, addressing the links between ecotourism, inclusiveness and the impact of natural disasters.
Also, a master class will be led by producer Mohammed El Kaghat, who will share his expertise in terms of accessibility of establishments and sites of tourist interest to technicians and artists with disabilities as well as on the contribution of cinema to areas of film shootings in terms of tourism promotion.
Two technical workshops are also planned as part of this edition, focusing respectively on editing techniques and cinematographic language to deepen the basics of visual storytelling in the service of inclusiveness.
The 17th edition of the Handifilm Festival will be marked by the screening of participating films at the Megarama cinema, with the aim of bringing a touch of modernity and animation to this new edition, according to the organizers.
