Young people no longer want positions of responsibility and favor office routine

On social networks, trends related to the world of work are becoming more and more popular. With the hashtags #OfficeLife, #OfficeTok or even #CorporateTok on TikTok, young workers from Generation Z (those born in the 2000s) share their love of a mundane and routine corporate life, reports Radio .

Among them, the American Connor Hubbard, aka Hubs Life, now has 1.2 million subscribers on Instagram. It was he who launched the “Normalize the norm” movement by sharing his daily routine on social networks. The videos, repetitive and uninteresting, are described as “deeply soothing” by Internet users.

Become a manager, no thanks

Far from the usual trend of social networks which invites us to dream of an inaccessible elsewhere, this new trend reconnects us to a concrete and tangible daily life. But if young employees find happiness in a calm and orderly office life, they are not necessarily motivated to invest themselves professionally and climb the ladder.

Generation Z is thus today in a global rejection of positions of responsibility. A study recently carried out by a recruitment firm shows that 52% of young workers do not want to become managers. This phenomenon, called “unbossing”, is explained by the fear of pressure, conflict management and the rejection of exhausting jobs.

Several other ways of working would be favored by the new generation, note Capital : teleworking, flexible hours, clear and little variable tasks. Well-being at work is now essential for young people, who prioritize their physical and mental health over their career.
