Death of Philippe Jacquard, Furtwängler specialist

We learn of the death of Philippe Jacquard at the age of 76, a tireless collector of sound recordings, a knowledgeable connoisseur of the great performers of the past and recording techniques. An engineer by training, a man of gentlemanly discretion, he never sought to impress his interlocutors with the extent of his knowledge, but was keen to share the fruits of his passion.

This is how, from November 2020 to May 2024, Philippe Jacquard nourished his musical blog called “Concerts & Archives HD” by offering new sound archives every week (magnetic tapes of radio concerts and rare vinyl records), digitized by him and enhanced with explanatory texts and rich analyses.

These archives, offered as free downloads and in excellent reports, are available in two digital file formats: 16-bit (CD quality) and 24-bit (high resolution).

Nothing ensures that this blog will remain accessible for a long time, we cannot encourage our readers enough to connect to the site concertsarchiveshd.fr in order to draw from numerous treasures signed Wilhelm Furtwängler, Dimitri Mitropoulos, Charles Munch, Pierre Monteux, Fritz Busch, Artur Schnabel, Edwin Fischer and many other exceptional artists, including major chamber music ensembles… and even Maria Callas.

A founding member of the Wilhelm Furtwängler Society, of which he was general secretary and then president for two years (1991-1992), Philippe Jacquard was an internationally recognized expert on the sonic legacy of this important conductor. (CL)
