the Apple + series won an International Emmy Award

The American-French-Japanese fiction “Drops of God” from Apple + received the award for best drama series at the 52nd International Emmy Awards ceremony held in New York.

A prestigious award. Launched on Apple TV+ in 2023, before making a appearance last summer on 2, “Les Gouttes de Dieu” has just won the prize for best drama series at the 52nd International Emmy Awards ceremony which took place at night last, in New York.

Adaptation of the manga written by Tadashi Agi and illustrated by Shu Okimoto published in France from 2008 (ed. Glénat), available in eight episodes, this fiction directed by Quoc Dang Tran (Marianne, Nox, Parallèles) immerses viewers in the world oenology between France and Japan.

The story follows Camille, a young Parisian whose oenologist father is the author of a renowned wine guide. When the latter dies in Japan, she goes to Tokyo to read the will. There she discovers that her father owns, in addition to his real estate, one of the largest collections of great wines in the world. But to claim this heritage, the one who cannot stand alcohol will have to face a young and brilliant oenologist Issei Tomine – whom her father refers to as his “spiritual son” – during three tasting tests.

A series about family

“It’s a series that talks about family, bonds, the search for identity, in the world of wine (…) which is a world in its own right,” confided actress Fleur Geffrier, who plays Camille, to AFP. “And all that mixed with two countries that intermingle very well, Japan and France, with several languages. It’s about life, ultimately,” she added about this series, season 2 of which is in development.

Note that other French productions were in the running, without any winning any prizes, notably season 3 of “HPI” with Audrey Fleurot which appeared in the best comedy category, Sarah Giraudeau, nominated for best actress for his role in “Tout va bien”, and Laurent Lafitte in the best actor category for his interpretation of Bernard Tapie in the Netflix series.

Omar Sy was also present in New York to present an honorary prize to Sidonie Dumas, the general director of Gaumont. He took the opportunity to discuss a possible season 4 of “Lupin”. “I’ll still keep you in suspense a little bit (…) I can’t tell you. But there, I said a little,” he said.
