Actress Keira Knightley remembered with pain the constant rumors that circulated for many years about her physique. Rumors that she suffered from an eating disorder.
A real trauma. In an interview with The Times published on Saturday, November 23, Keira Knightley spoke about what it was like to have to deal with constant speculation about her weight, recalling remarks made early in her career that she suffered from an eating disorder.
“I knew I didn’t have an eating disorder. I knew I was eating,” the 39-year-old star said, adding that she has since repressed much of the experience. “I don’t remember it like a typical trauma,” she said. “There was a complete suppression, and then things came up and I suddenly had a very physical memory of it, because, in the end, it’s a public shame, isn’t it?” ‘actress. “It’s obviously part of my psyche, given my young age when it happened.”
Keira Knightley highlighted how the press generally lacked empathy, even being cruel. She recalled a particularly awkward question a reporter asked her, surrounding Mary-Kate Olsen’s 2004 battle with anorexia. “I viscerally remember one of the Olsen twins suffering from anorexia and going to a clinic. I remember being asked that question on a press tour, like it was a joke. She was supposed to be ashamed for seeking help for her anorexia,” the “Love, Actually” actress said.
In addition to what people will say about her weight, the star said that her early fame had led to deep discomfort in her and that she had to undergo therapy for it.
In 2023, she also revealed to Britain’s Harper’s Bazaar that she had “never felt comfortable” with the way she was perceived in films like “Pirates of the Caribbean”, namely “the object of the lust of everyone. She then added that “the roles that followed were about trying to get out of that situation.”
