Musical theater fans have been waiting for this moment for more than two decades. Since its premiere on Broadway in 2003, Wicked has been one of the projects that many fans wanted to see hit the big screen. Universal Pictures has been working on it since 2004, many directors took turns at the helm before Jon Chu really took on the project.
Fruit of a long gestation, Wicked is now ready to hit cinemas around the world. Elphaba and Glinda can give voice, cover iconic compositions such as “Defying Gravity” or “Popular”. Many spectators will undoubtedly want to imitate them. AMC has therefore taken measures to ensure the smooth running of the sessions in the country. As reported by the media IndyStar, a warning is projected before the start of the film to remind everyone of the behavior to adopt once plunged into darkness. We can read there:
“At AMC theaters, silence is golden. No chat, no textsno singingno whining or flirting. And absolutely no insult. Enjoy the magic of cinema”.
Asked by IndyStar, a company spokesperson: “AMC has a long-standing policy prohibiting disruptive behavior. The Wicked pre-show spot incorporates the themes of the film as a fun and engaging reminder to audience members not to disrupt the experience of those around them while they enjoy the show”. It must be said that spectators' enthusiasm for the films they watch is not always limited to discreet laughter or gasps of surprise.
