Nantes Atlantique airport is transformed into an open-air art gallery with the exhibition of three giant sculptures bears made by the sculptor Michel Bassompierre.
This initiative, which is part of VINCI Airports’ desire to “enrich the traveler experience”, highlights the animal world of the artist, already visible in an exhibition in Vertou (Loire-Atlantique) until to February 23, 2024.
Two meters high
The sculptures, each measuring two meters high, are installed in front of the terminal, attracting the attention of passengers.
One of the works, entitled “The Game”, depicts two intertwined bears, while another, “The Bees”, illustrates a bear disturbed by bees while he tastes his honey.
These monumental creations join a series of artistic exhibitions previously organized by the airport, such as “Flight of the Wild Geese” and “Nomade”.
“We are proud to highlight the talent of the artists who bring the Nantes region to life,” declares Hervé BidetMarketing and Sales Director of the airport. He emphasizes that the airport aspires to be a place of life and exchange, and this exhibition fits perfectly into this approach.

17 giant sculptures to admire in Vertou
Saturday November 16, 2024, Michel Bassompierre inaugurated his exhibition in Vertou, where he has his workshop, in front of several hundred people and representatives of the NGO WWF.
Until February 23, 2025, this internationally renowned artist imbued with simplicity and humility, claiming to create these “toys” with the soul of a child, present in the city no less than 17 giant sculpturesbrown bears, gorillas, polar bears and emperor penguins.
