If there was a time when the novelty of live-action was enough to attract audiences to cinemas, in 2024 this is no longer the case. Tired of these adaptations sometimes frame by frame of their favorite animated films, spectators are more than fed up with the lack of novelty in cinemas. The trailer for Dragonsdespite promising images, actually pays the price.
The public loves dragons, but these ones are warmed up
The trilogy Dragonsreleased between 2010 and 2019 in theaters, reported to Dreamworks more than one billion six hundred million dollars at the worldwide box office. A success both monetary and critical, since the three films in the saga were warmly received by both the public and the specialized press. Officialized in 2023, the live action adaptation of the story of Hiccup, a teenage Viking, and his dragon, Toothlesshad aroused skeptical reactions from Internet users. While the trailer has just been revealed, their fears are confirmed.
Co-produced by Universal and Dreamworks, this Dragons will be released on June 11, 2025 in cinemas. Worn by Mason Thames (For All Mankind) in the main role, the film is revealed in an admittedly beautiful trailer, but identical in every way to the 2010 cartoon. Despite some nice winks, such as the return of Gerard Butler in the role of Stoïk the Brute, Internet users do not hide their discouragement and boredom in the face of this repetition. There will be no novelty or freshness in this live-action, as they predict on social networks:
