The dog trial

A dog and a court. Roughly speaking. The dog trial focuses on Avril, a lawyer with a history of losing causes who is determined to win her next case. Unfortunately, she will have to defend the dog Cosmos, because of repeated bites. A totally hopeless and explosive cause. The dog’s trial promises to be as unexpected as it is eventful.

Inspired by true events, The Trial of the Dog is not just a simple wacky film. Quite the opposite! Behind a crazy and bizarre overlay, Laetitia Dosch’s first feature film stands out as a humanist and deeply societal comedy. Alongside the director and actress? The hilarious François Damiens and Jean-Pascal Zadi. The Trial of the Dog seduced Cannes last May, and continues its little journey. The press gives it an average of 3.4 out of 5 while AlloCiné spectators give the film a score of 3.2.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Halloween is coming! Almost 40 years after the release of BeetlejuiceTim Burton is back with a second part just as… demonic. While a terrible tragedy struck the Deetz family, here they are back in Winter River. Lydia’s daughter is a rebellious teenager. When she accidentally opens a portal to the Beyond, everything changes and chaos hangs over both worlds. If someone were to say the name Beetlejuice three times, it would really be a mess…

In this new opus, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder reprise their respective iconic roles as Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz. Jenna Ortega joins the happy crew. What could be more logical after her marked interpretation of the Addams daughter in Wednesday on Netflix? Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe are also in the game!

Both the press and AlloCiné spectators seem delighted to see Beetlejuice and Tim Burton’s touch again. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice gets an average of 3.6 out of 5, press and spectators combined.

The Thread

If you are more of a drama fan, The Thread has just been released in theaters. Led by Daniel Auteuil, who is in front of and behind the cameras, the feature film takes us to meet Maître Jean Monier. This criminal lawyer has chosen to no longer take on criminal cases since he exonerated a repeat murderer. But when he crosses paths with Nicolas Milik, a father accused of murdering his wife, he is determined to help him. Convinced of his client’s innocence, Maître Jean Monier is ready to do anything to win his trial at the assizes, and at the same time rediscovers the meaning of his vocation.

The Thread was presented at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 in Special Screening and features a deep and intense story with a sustained rhythm. Enough to hold your breath until the end. The cast includes Daniel Auteuil, Alice Belaïdi and Grégory Gadebois who are acclaimed. The press gives it a score of 3.5 out of 5. AlloCiné viewers are more enthusiastic with a score of 3.8.
