On November 20, the Empire Comedy Club promised a surprise. And it is big: after Dony London, Alizon Defrance, Elies Zoghlami and Guillaume Dolle, Paul Mirabel has burned the boards. After buying cannelés, ironically about its popularity: “Today, there is really a big problem with notoriety. I’m not sure that in 1480, in the street, people would say: ”but no! Christopher Columbus! I’m hallucinating!”
Obviously, even though he was lurking there for his next show, Paul Mirabel sparked an ovation. But the first parts also attracted laughter from the 130 people present. Ten minutes each to win the cheers of the public. The spicy Dony London, bearded Asian, “one of the people who during confinement scared everyone the most”, Alizon Defrance, who will always deny having farted “with the fervor of a white man accused of sexual assault”; Elies Zoghlami, a former nurse, who rejoiced at each death: “one more meal tray for Bibi”. Guillaume Dolle elegantly took the last turn before Paul Mirabel, with his Michel Serrault-style grins, and his world picking the public against the grain (redhead).
High-flying self-deprecation
The Empire Comedy Club offered an eclectic, lively, trivial scene, which hit the mark. What all these stand-ups had in common was a high level of self-deprecation: “Every time I go on stage, no one knows me. I say to myself: where are the 4 million Facebook viewers? » asked Guillaume Dolle. This is the risk that this place takes: assessing a priori the value of a show is impossible, to the extent that a performance can exist online without increasing attendance in the theater. Max Gonzalez, one of the co-leaders of the Empire, assured Wednesday evening that he wanted to organize a comedy club every month. The next one is therefore scheduled for December 18.
