Summary this week: “Very bad second-hand clothes?”, “In the head of Elon Musk”, “Morocco: new kingdom of canna-business”.
With the explosion in the number of second-hand stores in France, the second-hand market has become the choice of many consumers keen to reduce their ecological footprint. But is this alternative really more ethical and sustainable? “Special Envoy” took a look behind the scenes of the second-hand industry.
Where do these designer jeans come from, bought for a few euros in a thrift store? To find out, our investigation crosses borders to India, where gigantic sorting centers receive tons of used clothing from all over the world, including France. There, workers like Pratima Mondal, 37 years old and mother of two, sort our second-hand clothes daily for a salary of around 80 euros per month — an income barely enough to survive. “Special correspondent” reveals the working conditions of these little hands in the second-hand clothes at the end of the world, and the often overlooked ecological impact of this industry.

He is the richest man in the world, Donald Trump’s most vocal supporter and his future minister of government efficiency. How did Elon Musk go from eccentric entrepreneur to very right-wing politician? “Special Envoy” follows in the footsteps of a man with a confusing intellectual and industrial background. He made his fortune in the very liberal Silicon Valley, before moving the nerve center of his industrial empire to Texas, while he himself appeared more and more in meetings with candidate Trump, to finish in the front ranks of the dinners of the new president-elect at Mar-a-Lago.
His controversial acquisition of Tesla (of which “Special Envoy” found the real founder), his brutal takeover of Twitter renamed exclusive testimonies, and in particular that of his father who still lives in South Africa and was the first to rally Elon to Trumpism, “Special Envoy” reconstituted the intellectual journey of a man obsessed by the end of the world, convinced that he must save our civilization by colonizing Mars and eradicating what he calls the “woke virus” on Earth.

With 55,000 hectares in the Rif Valley and 3,000 tonnes illegally exported each year to Europe, Morocco has long been considered the world’s leading supplier to the illegal cannabis market. But to put an end to this reputation as a “narco-state”, the kingdom made a 180-degree turn by legalizing production for therapeutic, industrial and medical purposes. The king even recently pardoned 4,800 cannabis growers prosecuted for illegal cultivation in order to encourage them to obtain official authorization and to step up repression on drug traffickers.
Since the promulgation of this law in 2021, 200 companies specializing in the production and processing of cannabis have emerged. From Tangier to Ketama, from small farmers to heavyweights in the pharmaceutical industry, including white-collar businessmen attracted by this new market, “Special Envoy” takes you on “the kif road”, to meet these pioneers legal cannabis in Morocco.
