Ten Montpellier designers presented their book “Made in Montpellier” during a launch evening, Wednesday, November 13, at Discopathe.
Focus on local culture. Instigated by two young Montpellier artists Lucas Belhaoues and Mattis Auguste-Charelery, the book “Made in Montpellier” offers a dive into the world of graphic design by highlighting ten Montpellier artists.
The concept was inspired by Englishman Jon Dowling’s art book about the African continent “From Africa”. “I said to myself that it was a cool idea and that it could be completely adapted to the scale of a city like Montpellier”Luke explained.
Born nine months ago, the creation highlights graphic design: “it is typically distinguished from the fine arts, graphic design must respond to a demand”specifies the 23-year-old young man.
Versions in other cities?
Funded by the Department and the City, “Made in Montpellier” illustrates ten talents still unknown to the general public. “The idea was not to restrict it to artists who already have an audience”.
With over 120 pages, “the book is constructed in such a way that each chapter highlights the world of an artist”illustrates the artist while leafing through the pink book.
After producing 150 copies, most of which were distributed free of charge during the evening at the Discopathe, Lucas and Mattis now hope to convert the trial by developing the idea in other French cities.
