Stan, Méo and Bob go to the theater. In a new adaptation of the very first film in the franchise, directed by Marc St-Martin, we will find the good old mismatched hockey team, but with certain remarks modernized in 2024-2025 style. “We had to bring it to 21e century by having female characters who hand over the boys in their place,” says screenwriter Guillaume Corbeil.
It was in an arena in the Rosemont district that the press conference took place to unveil the cast of the play Les Boyswhich will be launched next summer in Terrebonne, before going on tour across Quebec in early 2026.
While toxic masculinity has been in the news a lot in recent days, is it a good idea to do a show with boys who often made inappropriate comments about women in their hockey locker room?
In interview with The Journalactress Marilou Morin admits it straight away. She allegedly refused to participate in a show on Les Boys if changes to the original storyline had not been made by the designers.
“When I was approached to do this, I asked to see the text because I found that there were certain things that had perhaps aged poorly in terms of feminist values,” says the woman who will personify Sonia, the character that Maxim Roy played on the big screen. I read the text and there was really a lot of rewriting work, especially for my character. I’m delighted with what they did with it. It’s a show current with all that is mythical. It’s all there, but it will be watchable!”

“We are going to be kind”
Emmanuel Bilodeau, who will play Stan (Rémy Girard), also wondered if the text of the show was going to be modernized. “I didn’t want to play in a show misogynist who calls himself Les Boyswhere the girls are slightly sexy nunuches who just say stupid things. I didn’t want to condone that. That was my main concern. […] We are going to be kind. Women will be highlighted.”
Marc St-Martin and Guillaume Corbeil worked to flesh out the female characters in order to anchor them in our “post-#MeToo” era. “A lot of things have changed, even in the last ten years, so let’s imagine ourselves in the last 30 years,” says Marc St-Martin about the first film, which was released in 1997. That said, there is still an 80-85% which still holds up with this film.”

The show Les Boys will be performed from June 26 to July 13, 2025, at the Théâtre du Vieux-Terrebonne. The troupe will then leave for Quebec, at the Albert-Rousseau Hall, on January 18 and 19, 2026, and in several other cities in the province. For information: lesboys.com.
