Who better than Aurore Garcia, the president of the Baile Flamenco association, could tell us about International Flamenco Day celebrated on November 16?
It was in 2010 that, according to its criteria, UNESCO included this dance in the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity and dedicated a day to it to highlight the cultural richness and authenticity of flamenco.
Aurore reminds us of the origins: “Flamenca culture is closely linked to the history of the Andalusian gypsy people. Leaving India, this people brought their music to Andalusian land, after several centuries of migrations during which the music of the countries crossed have mixed to give birth to a unique art coming from the people, drawing its roots from the depths of the earth.”
For all those who practice it, it is not just a dance, songs and music, it is an identity and an art of living: an authentic culture.
And Aurore concludes: “With flamenco, we express deep feelings such as sadness, suffering, love, friendship, joy and also celebration, feelings shared by all and which make this art a universal art.”
