The donkey, Shrek’s faithful companion, will have his own Spin-Off.

CINEMA – What better way to celebrate Shrek’s 25th anniversary? The green ogre’s very endearing sidekick, the donkey, will have his own spin-off, announced American actor Eddie Murphy, who has lent his voice to the animal since the beginning of the saga in 2001.

During an interview with Collider magazine on Monday June 24, Eddie Murphy first confirmed that he is currently working on the fifth part of Shrek. “We started 4 or 5 months ago. I’ve already recorded part of it and we’re going to finish it this year.”he declared, planning an exit for “2025”.

Nothing surprising so far: if we didn’t yet know the release date of “Shrek 5”, the film was announced two years ago by DreamWorks. But the American actor then made an expected revelation, which should excite fans of the saga: “Shrek 5 is going to come out, then Donkey will have his own movie, we’re going to do that too,” he announced.

This feature film is already being prepared, he further clarified. This will be an opportunity to find the character who has already largely convinced the public with his comic potential and his optimistic character in the four previous installments of Shrek, including the most recent “ It was an end »was released in 2010.

His replies “Are we there soon?” » or “Can I stay with you?” Please? » are now cult, just like his voice. In French, the animal was until now dubbed by the actor Med Hondo, also known for having lent his voice to Eddie Murphy in most of his roles. Unfortunately, the latter died in 2019. We therefore do not yet know who will take over the dubbing of the donkey.

For his return to the big screen, the character will therefore necessarily be a little different. In the last part of Shrek, he was in a relationship with the very glamorous dragoness, previously responsible for guarding Princess Fiona. Both were filled with happiness with six children, half donkeys, half dragons.
