A Noel Gallagher guitar from Oasis sold for more than 271,000 euros at auction

A guitar from singer and guitarist Noel Gallagher, which he described in 1997 as “the best in the world”was sold on Saturday November 16, 2024 at auction for 226,800 pounds sterling, or more than 271,000 euros, according toAFP. He used it for the recording of the third album of the group Oasis, Be Here Nowreleased in August 1997.

Oasis returns for a series of concerts

The Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, announced in August the reunion of their group Oasis for a tour next summer. This return of the iconic 90s BritPop group has sparked immense enthusiasm among their fans. The tickets for the concerts were snapped up and their first album Definitely Maybereleased thirty years ago, once again found itself at the top of the sales charts in September.

According to the online auction house Propstore, this guitar was made for Noel Gallagher in Gibson’s workshop in 1997. It was notably used for performances on the David Letterman Show as well as on Saturday Night Live in the United States. . “It’s the best guitar in the world”said Noel Gallagher in an interview with the magazine Spin in 1997. “It’s not one of the best, it’s the best”.

But the group, founded in 1991 in Manchester, was at the height of its glory, it separated in 2009, due to recurring arguments between the Gallagher brothers, who continued their careers each on their own. Finally, they announced the Oasis reformation last summer for a tour next summer. “The guns are silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It won’t be televised.”the group announced in a press release.
