Beech Zark passed away due to acute heart failure, no doping product having been found in his body. The conclusions of the France Galop investigation can be consulted in the press release below.

Result of the investigation into the death of the horse Haya Zark

The loss of a horse is always a tragedy for those around them. It was therefore important to identify the causes leading to the death of the horse Haya Zark during his race on October 6, 1,400 meters from the finishing post. As soon as the incident occurred, the track veterinarian, present at the racecourse, intervened and unfortunately noted the death of the horse.

For the sake of transparency and in order to improve the safety of horses during competitions, France Galop immediately ordered a thorough investigation. These investigations required several weeks of careful analysis to determine the exact causes of the incident.

The actions carried out in this context included:

– An autopsy carried out very quickly, the next morning, which is important for the precision of the conclusions;

– A reinforced range of samples for research into substances and anti-doping control.

The main conclusions of the report which has just been issued are as follows:

– The autopsy reveals death due to acute heart failure, the cause of this tragic event;

– The anti-doping control tests, carried out before and after the race, were all negative.

France Galop renews its sincere support to the horse's owners, Odette Fau and Georges de La Rochebrochard, who were informed of the conclusions of the report, as well as to the trainer Adrien Fouassier and his team who looked after the horse on a daily basis.

We remain committed to strengthening our safety measures on racetracks during competitions to ensure the well-treatment of horses, which are at the heart of our passion and mission.
