From November 27 to 29, three representatives of the Departmental Committee of the League Against Cancer 47 will attend the general meeting of the National League. Opportunity to recall its missions.
The general secretary of Committee 47, Chantal Nouhaud, will be accompanied by two particularly active volunteers, Marie Crognier and Jessy Clarisse, to represent the department during these general meetings which bring together the 103 French committees. The various missions of the League against Cancer will, of course, be widely discussed.
A range of services to support patients
The League Against Cancer offers people with cancer and their loved ones a range of supportive oncological care alongside medical treatments: psychological support, dietary advice, socio-hairdressing and socio-aesthetics, reflexology and sophrology… Four sessions per year up to five years after the last ad consultation are offered. The care can take place at home but the Departmental Committee benefits from particularly suitable facilities in Agen (at 33, rue Camille-Desmoulins). The League Against Cancer also organizes free workshops, once a month at its headquarters, to discover sophrology, physiotherapy workshop, expression group, etc. and offers adapted physical activities: gentle gymnastics on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and pilates on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“Too few patients benefit from our services which nevertheless help them cope better with the disease,” laments Jean Calabet, president of the Lot-et-Garonne Cancer League.
Prevention and research
In addition to supporting patients, prevention (screening awareness operations, mobilization of society in the face of cancer, etc.) as well as research (charitable events to collect donations donated to research), constitute the main actions of the League against cancer.
The Departmental Committee is led by 13 administrators, three permanent employees and around fifteen volunteers, six of whom are particularly active. Don’t hesitate to come and meet this particularly dedicated and welcoming team to benefit from their free help and support.
