Jamie Lee Curtis has withdrawn from the X platform. The actress followed many personalities in this sudden mass exodus. In Switzerland, Federal Councilor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider did the same on Wednesday.
Jamie Lee Curtis left X with a loss and a crash following the election of Donald Trump.
The 65-year-old horror star is among the growing number of social media users leaving the platform after Donald Trump, 78, gave X CEO Elon Musk a role in his future government.
His account now links to a home page that says: “This account does not exist. Try looking for another one.”
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (13Nov24), the actress shared a screenshot of her X-page and wrote in the caption: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can change. And the wisdom to know the difference.”
“I thought for a time that it was a place for debate”
On Wednesday, Socialist Federal Councilor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider also chose to close her X account, arguing: “X has fundamentally changed. This platform does not correspond to the culture of debate in which I wish to participate. However, she did not establish a direct link with the election of Trump.
Same story with former CNN host Don Lemon, who also left the social network, explaining: “I loved connecting with all of you on X, but it’s time for me to leave the platform. I once believed it was a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency and freedom of expression, but now I feel it does not serve that purpose.”
He went on to cite recent changes to X’s terms of service which state that any legal action taken against it will be handled in the US state of Texas.
He wrote: “As the Washington Post recently reported on X’s decision to change the terms, it ‘ensures that such suits will be heard in courts that are a hub for conservatives, which the experts, could make it easier for X to protect itself against litigation and punish critics. I think that speaks for itself.”
On Tuesday, Donald Trump confirmed that he had named Elon Musk to head a new government efficiency department following his presidential election victory earlier this month.
