A former finalist of “The Voice” at Eurovision? Maybe, but not for France. Singer Mentissa will participate in the national selection to represent Belgium during the 69th edition of the song competition which will be held in May in Basel (Switzerland), Flemish public television VRT announced this Thursday, November 14.
The 25-year-old Belgian artist will compete with seven other candidates for “Eurosong 2025”, VRT’s selection process for Eurovision. Perfectly Dutch-speaking, the young woman born in West Flanders has not yet revealed the song with which she will compete in the final scheduled for February 1st.
Mentissa already seems very motivated: “In recent years, Eurovision has become much more than a singing competition. It has become a world full of courage and daring, where everyone is free to be fully themselves and where creativity knows no limits,” she explained to VRT to justify her desire to participate. to represent his native country.
The hit “Et Bam”
Former winner of the first edition of “The Voice Kids” in Flanders, she is best known in France for having been a finalist in season 10 of “The Voice” in 2021, during which she was coached by Vianney. This meeting turned his life upside down, since his mentor then wrote and composed the title “Et Bam”, a real success.
She was then nominated for the Victoires de la Musique in the “female revelation” category in 2023, after the release of her album “La Vingtaine”. With her strong base on the French-speaking scene, she became a coach on “The Voice Belgium” in January, for the eleventh season of the local variant of telecrochet.
The selection of the Belgian representative is based on an alternation: in odd years, the artist is chosen by VRT, and in even years, by RTBF, the French-speaking public television. Belgium has only won Eurovision once, in 1986 with Sandra Kim, who sang “J’aime la vie”. Last year, singer Mustii failed to qualify for the final despite his very good song “Before The Party Is Over”.
