Mora Youchkad lifts the veil on a dark and little-known page in the history of immigration in France: the systematic exploitation of thousands of young Moroccans recruited by Felix Morasergeant in the French army operating in Morocco under the protectorate, to work in French mines between the 1950s and 1980s.
Directed by Khalid Zairithis film gives a voice to the survivors of this tragedy. Their testimonies reveal the inhumane working conditions, discrimination and racism they faced.
Mora Youchkad tells the story of these Moroccans who dug tirelessly and in silence in the mines of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, far from their country, their families and everything they knew.
In a context where the debate on immigration in Europe is more relevant than ever, Mora Youchkad invites us to dive back into this “scheduled immigration“, which disrupted the lives of tens of thousands of young Moroccans, forced into economic exile to meet the labor needs of the Charbonnages de France.
A necessary film which reminds us of the importance of the duty to remember and the fight against all forms of exploitation.
Co-produced by 2M Soread and the Moroccan cinema center, Mora Youchkad also benefited from the support of the Image de la Francophonie Fund, the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) and the French Institute of Morocco.
Hailed by critics, the film was rewarded with several prestigious awards:
– Atlas Distribution Awards20th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival;
– Special jury prize24th edition of the Tangier National Festival;
– Grand Prize and Research Prize14th edition of the Nador International Cinema and Common Memory Festival;
