After “The Last Relay”, Benjamin Tranié will perform his last show “Congratulations and everything and everything” at the municipal theater of Coulommiers, his native life, on November 20 and 21.
Who could have believed that little Benjamin, this young boy from the Pays de Brie, would experience such an artistic destiny? He himself didn’t believe it, Benjamin Tranié, initially a community manager in advertising, is today the man who makes all of France laugh.
Le Briard talks about his shows and his strong desire for cinema.
On your social networks, you assiduously follow the news of Coulommiers, to what extent are you attached to the city?
My family and friends live here. It must be said that it is my birthplace. I was born there on February 21, 1989 and I continued my school career in Coulommiers. After Hippolyte-Rémy college, I was a student at Jules-Ferry high school. I wanted to play my first show, “Le Dernier Relais”, in my city, it was in 2021 at La Sucrerie. Afterwards, the dream was the theater…
You are a rising artist and yet nothing predestined you for this?
I studied law for six months before realizing I wasn’t any good. I then worked at Leclerc in Coulommiers for three months then I studied at the ESP school (higher school of advertising) in Paris for three years. After that, I went to college for two years and became a community manager in advertising.
Did the artistic debut come late?
My artistic beginnings began in Coulommiers. In middle and high school, I did theater. Subsequently, at ESP, a teacher encouraged me to continue on stage, she told me that I had something, that I was funny. We set up a troupe which toured from 2012 to 2015. We performed the show “Born to be in live” twice a week on Parisian stages.
I was on the Grosse Emission on Comédie Plus from 2015 to 2016. The first successes were in 2018 on radio Nova with the show Les 30 Glorieuses.
Did your show, Le Dernier Relais, launch your career?
Completely. With Zaid Sahebdin, we wrote it in a little over two weeks! In comparison, the second show “Congratulations and everything and everything” took us two months of writing, not counting the small additions throughout the performances. “Le Dernier Relais” is almost 100 dates, we will be close to 200 for “Congratulations and everything and everything”.
Do those you missed at La Sucrerie have a catch-up session on DVD?
No DVD but we can see it on Canal Plus (My Canal), the show was captured in October 2023 in Lille with an incredible audience. As soon as the show is royalty-free, we will put it freely on You Tube.
Do you have an anecdote with a film on the Netflix platform it seems?
Also in 2021, the second film in which I appear, with the character of Grégoire, was in fact top trend number 1 on this platform, the film is called “En passant pécho”.
I’m stressed and excited even more than for the Olympia in April!
An experience without follow-up for you?
Not quite. Besides, I’m counting on the Coulommiers cinema to screen the film “In flip-flops at the foot of the Himalayas”, in which I play with Audrey Lamy, it’s very funny with also a lot of emotion. The film hits theaters on November 13.
The city healed its wounds following the floods, what was your experience like?
I received a lot of messages of support from people, I felt like the mayor of the city! I followed the flood like everyone else on videos or on television, I thought of the theater which was badly affected.
In addition to shows and cinema, are you still in radio?
Always, every Tuesday around 5:50 p.m. on France Inter, as part of the show Zoom Zoom Zen. My character of the mayor of Mouroux is also still there. Besides, I thought he would blame me since I met the real mayor of Mouroux during the vows ceremony at the Sucrerie in Coulommiers. We had a good chat, I like this city, I admit, I didn’t dare to act like the mayor of Coulommiers!
Making people laugh is a difficult art, a priori, your audience will be won over by the new show.
People have a real need for laughter, for funny shows. My audience is more the 25-50 year old group but even in Tournan-en-Brie, where the spectators were more in the 70s, it worked well. We had a good chat at the end of the show.
Your performance in Coulommiers is fast approaching, how do you feel about it?
It’s already a dream to play, alone on stage, in this theater. I’m stressed and excited even more than for the Olympia in April! Playing two nights in a row is sporting, I have a coach who advises me but I’m ready to party for two days!
Benjamin Tranié, director one day, realm of possibility?
Absolutely… not! It’s a completely different profession. On the other hand, continuing the experience at the cinema appeals to me but going on stage is so much fun.
Will the circle be completed with Coulommiers on the evening of the 21st?
It will never be finished, I am too attached to my city. And what’s more, I have another dream, to film at “Coulywood”, that’s what I call the film studios near Coulommiers!
Benjamin Tranié, Congratulations and everything, Wednesday November 20 and Thursday November 21 at 8:30 p.m. at the municipal theater of Coulommiers. Reservations at 01 64 03 88 09. The artist will also perform on May 13 in Lagny-sur-Marne
