A pioneer of naive Art and poetic painter, Douanier Rousseau is in the spotlight at the Atelier des Lumières, through a unique exhibition to be discovered from February 13, 2025 to January 4, 2026.
Major figure of naive art, Henri Rousseaubetter known as Douanier Rousseauis one of the great French painters of the 19th century. Rousseau, who learned painting as an autodidact, continues to inspire many artists with his idealism and his very recognizable style.
L’Workshop of Lights dedicates an immersive exhibition to Douanier Rousseau, from February 13, 2025 to January 4, 2026. This retrospectivetitled Douanier Rousseau, in the land of dreamsshowcases his most famous works, in a series of paintings that immerse us in the colorful and luxuriant universe of this nature-loving painter.
Douanier Rousseau is particularly known for his paintings representing jungles, exotic or unknown landscapes, and very natural environments. However, the artist never left France! Passionate about art and nature, Henri Rousseau found his inspiration at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and in illustrated books, inventing worlds from the exotic plants he saw in Parisian parks.
By learning to paint on his own, Douanier Rousseau was able to build his style while being freed from academic rules and standards. Pioneer ofnaive arthe let himself be guided by the colors, the shapes that emerged in his imagination. His art earned him numerous mockeries, but also the recognition and admiration of those who detected a new genre in his paintings, such as Picasso, Kandinsky or Apollinaire.
L’Workshop of Lights offers us here a magical journey, in a poetic and wonderful universewhere we meet lions, hot air balloons, gorillas or football players in colorful and fascinating scenes.
