The Grand Debrief: Pascal Bary looks back on his rich coaching career

Pascal Bary was quickly in contact with the horses. The one who was born on April 7, 1953 came a long way before joining the house of the crack coach Francois Boutinas he announced to us in the show “Le Grand Débrief”: “I’ve always loved horses, it doesn’t come from my family, it’s innate in me. I was a competition rider, I rode a few amateur races. I rode in the morning at the training with William Clout, Tony’s father, and Mr. Sandor in Maisons-Laffitte: these were my first lessons with thoroughbreds. In Chantilly, I met Jean-Michel de Choubersky who advised me to go to. Sir Mark Prescott in England was a great character and very endearing but very hard. When I returned to , I joined François Boutin, who trusted me. I tried to reproduce what he told me. had learned for 4 years, he liked having the 2 year olds at the stable early for example.”

His start to his coaching career got off to a great start. “I started my installation with just one horse: I bought him through Patrick Barbe with my parents. He won at claiming and was claimed, so the first evening, I had no more horses I then had five or six yearlings and in this lot, there was a future Group 1 winner: Deep Roots It was obviously fabulous with such a horse, it gave me publicity and I liked it. I had quite a few yearlings”continued the editor.

Pascal Bary has experienced several prestigious victories for famous jackets, notably that of Jean-Louis Bouchard and that of the Niarchos family. “Jean-Louis Bouchard was there from the start. We started with claimers and we won quite a few races in a row. My horses won 6 Jockey Clubs for the Bouchard or Niarchos team. I also won 3 times in “in a row the Marcel Boussac, with three females who were in training at the same time: Six Perfections, Denebola and Divine Proportions”added the professional.
