The starred pastry chef and creator of trendy desserts, Cédric Grolet, is once again creating a buzz with a creation that does not go unnoticed: a sandwich ham and butter…sold at 30 euros ! A very French snack, revisited by the chef. And yet, this eccentric ham and butter sparks a real controversy on social networks.
To be precise, it is not a classic ham and butter, but a “ham and cheese baguette with truffle supplement”. The baguette, shaped like a canoe, is garnished with chiffonade Paris ham, Comté cheese, pickles and slices of black truffle from Périgord. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons for this high price: the truffle, a luxury product, costs on average 1180 euros per kilo. Other high-end ingredients are used, such as chestnut flour for the baguette.

On social networks, reactions are divided. Many denounce this gastronomic inflation, speaking of an “unjustified price for a sandwich”. But, paradoxically, this controversy only added to the buzz around Cédric Grolet. Tasting videos, sometimes mocking, are multiplying, and customers flock to his stores. This is a huge publicity stunt for the chef, who continues to cultivate his image as a creator of luxury pastries.
This is not the first time that his creations have been talked about. Its strawberry tart for 80 euros or even its Christmas log at 95 euros had already aroused indignation, but also great media interest. Ultimately, these high prices create an exclusive aura around its boutiques, which always attract a large clientele willing to wait sometimes more than an hour to taste its creations.
