King Charles III pays tribute to British soldiers, in the presence of Princess Kate

Remembrance Sunday is an annual commemoration taking place on the Sunday nearest to Armistice Day, 11 November, the anniversary of the end of the First World War, and ceremonies in Commonwealth countries commemorate servicemen fallen in the line of duty since the First World War. Veterans and hundreds of Britons gathered to watch this tribute around the Cenotaph, the memorial dedicated to soldiers in the Whitehall district in the center of the capital.

Kate resumes her public engagements

Crown Prince William’s wife Kate watched the ceremony from the balcony of a government building, as she gradually returns to public engagements. The day before, she appeared smiling alongside her husband during a memorial concert at the Royal Albert Hall, marking her first major public appearance since the announcement of her cancer.

Buckingham Palace announced in February that Charles was suffering from cancer. The following month, the very popular Kate, 42, also revealed that she was suffering from cancer – without revealing the nature – and that she was undergoing chemotherapy. Both have since made limited returns to public life, with Charles recently interrupting treatment to tour Australia and Samoa.

For his part, Prince William said this week that the past year has been “brutal” and probably “the most difficult” of his life due to the two diagnoses.
