Writing the words bathyscaphe and seborrheic, without making a mistake, deserves a prize!

The best copies of the dictation tribute to Bernard Pivot were rewarded on November 10, 2024, just a few hours after the test.

This Sunday morning, around a hundred candidates got up at dawn to pay tribute to the television host. Françoise is one of them: “I love spelling and grammar. This dictation will be an opportunity to recall childhood memories, and to see what I remember years later, what mistakes I make and how I can improve. C It’s a lot of fun.”

Bernard Pivot was president of the Brive book fair in 2007. The host of the shows Apostrophe and Bouillon de Culture, invented the dictation bearing his name in 1985. It took place regularly for sixteen years, then more occasionally by the following.

Its goal was to celebrate the French language. It was also an intellectual challenge.

Died on May 6, 2024, Bernard Pivot is essential in the world of letters in France. He was president of the Goncourt academy from 2014 to 2019.

The texts of Pivot’s dictations are often full of grammatical traps, unusual syntax rules, and extensive or rare vocabulary.

The tribute text was written by Julien Soulié, professor of literature.

When rereading, Françoise is not sure of anything: “I’m giving myself five more minutes to reread. I’m still hesitant. I made between five and ten mistakes!”

The copies were corrected by holders of academic awards.
