Aspect du packaging : We really liked the packaging offered by Intermarché. The red color caught the eye in the aisle, with a product also well highlighted on the label. The complete opposite of the Colruyt product. The blue color wasn’t the best choice, and it was very minimalist. The only advantage is that you can directly see the product through the packaging. This was also somewhat the case at Delhaize, but with much more ambitious packaging. At Carrefour, like last year, we regret that the label is on the front of the package. It’s easy to find the information, but it ruins the whole thing, visually. At Aldi, this hasn’t changed in years, and it’s still just as ugly. At Lidl, it was much better, with reminders of the French tradition around raclette, with a checkered tablecloth, and a flag. It is in fact a well-made imitation of the big brand, Le Rustique, which replaces Entremont this year.
Product appearance: for Delhaize, we really regretted the transparent crust, which didn’t make you want to taste the product. It also lacked smell and was very white, once cooked. For Colruyt, it was a little better, especially in terms of smell. At Carrefour, the color of the cheese was already much more appealing, with a beautiful rind, like Le Rustique. It was visually less attractive at Intermarché, but the smell was really excellent. For Lidl it was again very white and lacked smell. Same at Aldi.
The big brand test: only one reference is worth tasting for Flemish stews! (COMPARATIVE)
Nutritional value: Nutri-Score D for everyone.
Label readability: for Intermarché, it was a little too small, but it was still completely correct, with a table. For Colruyt, there was no table – as almost always – but that was also clear. The same goes for Delhaize. For Carrefour, it was a little too small but readable. At Aldi, it was also on the front of the packaging, but it remained very readable. It was also very good for Lidl and the big brand.
Taste : we start with Colruyt. It lacked a bit of taste. It was far from bad, but it didn’t break a duck’s three legs. For Carrefour, it had much more flavor, with a very creamy texture. It was perhaps a little too strong for some. Intermarché also offered a very good product, also a little strong but more subtle than Carrefour. For Lidl, it’s very – too – all-purpose but correct. The remark is the same for Aldi, moreover, with even less taste. Delhaize was not doing any better. Finally, the big brand was well above the competition. Everything was better.
The brand test: which raclette cheeses melt us the most? (2022)
Value for money: here are the prices in order for a package of approximately 400 g: Le Rustique (€8.35), Carrefour (€4.49), Delhaize (€4.35), Intermarché (€4.15), and Aldi, Lidl and Colruyt (€3.99).
