Calixte presents his astonishing works in Fougères

The painter Calixte, alias Marie-Christine Le Pratexhibits throughout the month of November at the Destination Fougères tourist office (Ille-et-Vilaine).

A symbolic place for the artist, granddaughter ofAlbert Durand at the origin of the Fougères tourist office which he created in 1913 and chaired for thirty years.

It’s a bit of a return to basics. It’s fun to exhibit here.

Born in Fougères, a former student of the Beaux-Arts in Rennes, Calixte first turned to painting on fabric then towards the French decorative tradition, before discovering, during a trip to Japanthe traditional know-how of master paper makers and the fantastic support offered by the Japanese Washi paper.

His vision of fauna and flora

At the tourist office, she presents, with Painting differently, twenty-four works made on wood, Japanese paper or canvas, and made with ancient techniques.

There are a few portraits, but above all representations of animals, strikingly realistic.

There are lots of birds. Parrots, ibises, but also cranes from the island of Hokkaido, which I fell in love with.

His delicate, colorful paintings enhanced with gold leaf bear witness to his vision of fauna and flora “unusual and poetic, nourished by oriental influences”.

Some paintings have been the subject of exceptional montages combining silk, washi and ink and made by her husband, André Le Pratwho was in charge of the paper restoration cabinet at Louvre.

Calixte will be present every Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to meet and interact with the Fougères public.

Painting differently by Calixte exhibition, visible until November 30 at the Destination Fougères tourist office, 2 rue Nationale. Open Mondays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
