The icon of French song and performer of Une belle histoire was invited to the microphone of Éric Dussart and Jade in “On refait la télé” this Saturday, November 9 on RTL. Michel Fugain briefly returned to the release of his album Life, Love, etc. on October 25 but also on aspects of his personal life that inspired him. And the presenter did not hold back when discussing the tragedy of the singer's life: the death of his daughter, as a result of leukemia at just 22 years old.

“To the question “why do I sing?”can we also answer for Laurette?asked Éric Dussart. Surprised by the question, Michel Fugain took a few seconds to answer. “Oh sweetie… Um, she's part of the whole thing, the tears and the smiles. So, I sing of tears and smiles”he said, referring to the lyrics of his latest song Why do I sing. The presenter added by quoting a statement from the singer that he had addressed to his late daughter during an interview: “I have decided to live intensely to experience in your place everything that you will not experience.”

Despite the 22 years that have passed since this tragedy, the singer did not hide his embarrassment and his emotion. “It’s always a little difficult because… Because she was 22, okay”he said, loosening the scarf tied around his neck as if to breathe better. “She only wanted to live.”underlined Michel Fugain before cutting short all discussions. “Shall we move on?”asked the singer, moved, an embarrassed smile on his lips.

Éric Dussart still wanted to clarify that after the rain comes the good weather. And for Michel Fugain, two months passed between the loss of his daughter and meeting the woman of his life. “There I thought it was a sign of destiny. There is a soul that leaves and I meet another soul. And this soul, with whom I was first friends, then one day we fell apart”recalled Michel Fugain. And to add: “She met me, I was dead. I was livid, green. My hair was falling apart, I had incredible alopecia areata.” The singer did not take any detours in affirming that it was indeed thanks to her that he was able to get back on his feet following the death of his daughter. “To explain, I say that we often sink and then she caught me and brought me to the surface. […] At 60, I met the woman I was made for and I believe I was the man she was made for.”
